Career Guidance

Key Stage 3 students will have access to the following:

  •  Subject specific careers focused lessons
  • Careers and industry days
  • Access to the materials and advice in the school careers hub
  • Trips to work place venues in various industries
  • Visits to careers shows

Key stage 4 students will have access to the following:

  • College taster programme at Shrewsbury College (1 day a week/ 30 week programme)
  • Practical experience in 4 course areas at college. Sport, motor vehicles, catering and construction
  • Visits to various college open days around Shropshire (and beyond if required)
  • Work experience placements or work shadowing days
  • Careers and industry days
  • Visits from industry professionals
  • Careers advice and guidance sessions (provided at Shrewsbury College)
  • Visit to the regional apprenticeship event at The International centre in Telford
  • Support from the Post-16 coordinator in applying for college courses, apprenticeships and supported internships.


Start is a free, online careers platform designed to connect 11-18 year olds with their future career
potential. It combines the most comprehensive source of information with a personalised experience
and career planning tools, helping our students to make more informed decisions about their future
study and career options, as well as developing their employability.

Start includes:
A student profile: students build their profile and access personalised study and career information.
Modules: activities to guide students through the information on Start at the right time.
Up to date information: engaging content on what to study, where to learn and the world of work.
Locker: an online record of achievement to evidence skills for future applications and CVs.
Employability action plan: Students can set goals and stay in control of their career planning.
