The Chicken Coop
Here at Woodlands School we keep three chickens into the purpose built coop and run.
The three different breeds of chickens we have are Sussex, Black Rock and a Silver Laced Wyandotte.
Pupils learn about the welfare of animals whilst caring for the chickens aswell gaining a knowledge of the breeds we have.
A group of pupils in school run a small enterprise club, selling the eggs to staff to raise money towards feeding and caring for the chickens.
A little about the breeds of chickens we have at the School:
Popular ‘back yard chicken, producing cream coloured eggs.
American bred hen, known to be docile and lays throughout the winter. Their eggs are brown in colour.
Silver Laced Wyandotte
The Wyandotte is also a breed of chicken originating in America. They are a docile breed popular for showing. They produce brown eggs.
